30+ Years of Raising Horses
From good working bloodlines with good minds & good conformation. ![]() |
Mailloux QH would like to welcome you to our website! I’ll begin with an introduction of our family and quickly move on to the horses. We are located 9 miles east of Sturgis SD, on Highway 34, 5 miles north on Nine Mile Road and ½ mile west on Rodeo Drive. We live on the ranch homesteaded by Gary’s grandparents. We have three children. Dayne, our oldest, and his wife Melody moved back to the “Hills” last fall from Austin TX. Dayne is a Journeyman Electrician and Melody works at Rapid City Regional Hospital. They are happy to be back home and we are more than happy to have them back. |
Our son, Dustin and his wife Melissa also live near Rapid City. After 4 years of wildland firefighting, the last two with a Hotshot crew, Dustin decided to change careers so he could be home more during the summer. He now works on an oil rig where he works 7days on and 7 off. Melissa is a Radiology Technologist and does “cat scans” at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Our daughter Amanda is a cosmetologist in Rapid City, and is still single. We don’t have any grandchildren - just 3 grand kitties and 2 grand puppies! The boys did ride, but didn’t compete. They mostly liked their horse power under the hood! Amanda was our horse lover. She rodeoed during high school and went to State 3 years in polebending riding one of our broodmares! Now working to make a living takes most of her time, and the horses have taken a back seat for time being. |

Well, enough about us and now about the horses! We have been raising QHs since 1972. Our main goal in breeding Quarter Horses has always been to produce horses with dispositions, good conformation including good bone, trainable minds and the versatility do a good job in several different areas. Most of our mares go back to our 1986 black stud, Bob Drifter Coulee. He is foundation bred and carries the bloodlines of Blondy’s Dude, Leovada (Leo), Peter McCue, the Waggoner bloodlines and naturally Three Bars. |

Our senior sire is a 1997 buckskin, Gotta Sweet Leo, a Gay Bar King, Cutter Bill, War Leo, Sugar Bars – bred stallion. His first foals since we have owned him are three this year. We have had super feedback about them. Our junior sire is Peppy Dunit Special. He is a 2003 dun grandson of Mr. San Peppy. He is riding really nice and we are quite pleased with him. We are breeding him for the first time this year and are already looking forward to his 2007 foals! Come out and visit us anytime. We’ll swap some horse stories and show you our herd. |
